Position: Data Engineer
Location: Midland, MI or Houston, TX
The Data Engineer will lead technical implementation and design of scalable, Gold‑layer data products on the Azure Databricks Lakehouse Platform. Working on high‑value initiatives, you will solve complex challenges around optimization, architecture, and reliability to deliver performant datasets that support machine‑learning pipelines, real‑time data consumption, AI systems, and enterprise reporting.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with senior engineers to translate business requirements into clear, scalable data models and designs, then independently drive implementation.
- Design, build, and deploy high‑volume data transformations using optimized PySpark; tune Spark jobs and diagnose performance bottlenecks to maximize efficiency and minimize cloud cost.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines in Azure Dev Ops/Git to ensure automated, secure deployments across environments.
- Integrate diverse source systems—SQL Server, Neo4j, Cosmos
DB—managing persistence and query performance. - Implement and maintain data quality frameworks such as Delta Live Tables and Great Expectations to support mission‑critical applications.
- Serve as a go‑to technical resource, conduct code reviews, and mentor associate engineers on PySpark and Databricks best practices.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
* or* relevant military experience at or above U.S. E5 ranking
* or* Canadian Petty Officer 2nd class or Sergeant
* or* five years relevant experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. - 2–5 years of professional experience in Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in PySpark, distributed processing, and performance tuning.
- Experience designing dimensional or star/snowflake schemas and handling Slowly Changing Dimensions.
- Expertise in Azure orchestration tools such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks Workflows, or equivalent (e.g., Airflow).
- Strong SQL skills and experience with at least one non‑relational or graph database (e.g., Cosmos
DB, Neo4j). - Demonstrated ownership of complex features, autonomous management of technical dependencies, and ability to influence stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills for articulating technical designs to peers and senior stakeholders.
- Ability to work legally in the United States; no visa sponsorship will be provided.
- Understanding of cloud cost‑management for Databricks compute and ADLS storage.
- Experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools such as Terraform or ARM templates.
- Proficiency with data visualization and dashboarding tools (Power BI, Tableau).
