Accounting Clerk

Description We are looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to join a team in Midland, Texas in a contract-to-permanent role. This position supports daily billing and payment activity, helping ensure customer accounts remain accurate, current, and properly documented. The ideal candidate brings strong billing or accounts receivable experience, works well within structured deadlines, and is comfortable using Excel for data review and reporting.

Responsibilities:

- Manage daily payment posting activities on a set schedule to keep customer account balances accurate and up to date.

- Review incoming payment correspondence, identify check and returned payment activity, and prepare documentation needed for timely deposits.

- Handle chargebacks, returned payments, account corrections, and customer refunds within established turnaround times.

- Process assigned billing cycles and non-routine billing items while ensuring invoices are completed accurately and on schedule.

- Reconcile district-level billing and payment records to support timely closeout and financial accuracy.

- Assist with monthly reporting by preparing receivable aging details, tax-related summaries, and other accounting support materials.

- Verify billing inputs such as rates and usage-related data to help prevent errors before invoices are issued.

- Provide backup support for supervisory billing duties when needed, including draft setup, payment monitoring, and procedural follow-through.

- Contribute to process documentation and help refine billing workflows as systems and team practices continue to develop. Requirements - At least 2 years of experience in billing, accounts receivable, payment processing, or a closely related accounting support role.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to use pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and formulas for analysis and reconciliation.

- Experience handling billing transactions, invoice processing, cash application, and account adjustments with a high level of accuracy.

- Ability to manage time-sensitive work within a structured daily schedule and follow established procedures consistently.

- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate financial records across multiple tasks.

- Detail-oriented and reliable work habits, with effective communication skills for collaborating across teams.

- Familiarity with billing or accounting platforms such as Quick Books or similar systems;
Net Suite experience is an advantage but not required.
