Natureof Work
The Estimator II analyzes construction documents, proposal requests, proposals, and other documents to perform assigned estimating functions. The role prepares estimates establishing the value of the work and routinely interacts with vendors and trade partners in preparation of estimates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Utilize effective organizational and time‑management strategies to ensure multiple assignments are completed efficiently, on time, and with high accuracy.
- Scope and tabulate trade partner quotes for conformance with bid documents to determine the value of the work (assignments include complex and major scopes of work).
- Complete assignments in accordance with estimating project approach; implement quality‑control measures to ensure accuracy and completeness of estimates.
- Thoroughly review bid documents and contribute input to project approach plan, determine scope of work and required content of estimate; take active role in risk analysis of projects.
- Identify conflicts and ambiguities within bid documents and work toward resolution to ensure a complete scope of work and required content of estimate.
- Responsible for analyzing costs and gathering cost data, organizing into a useful format for future pricing and updates to cost database.
- Ensure clear and concise communication in both verbal and written formats, effectively conveying information to team members, clients, and stakeholders.
- Proactively build and maintain relationships within the company and across the industry to foster collaboration and enhance professional networks.
- Actively participate in project handoff meetings and the 360 project review process.
- Ability to scope, tabulate and estimate architectural, structural, and civil scopes and ability to scope and tabulate MEP scopes.
- Exhibit mastery of bid administration processes.
- Excellent bid document reading and interpretation.
- Advanced technical skills in quantity takeoff, cost estimating, scoping and bid tabulation.
- Exposure to project scheduling, constructability reviews, compiling cost data, cost analysis, budgeting, proposal response, preconstruction services, general conditions review, and value engineering.
- Improved written and verbal communication to clearly convey critical information among team, trade partners, and clients.
- Demonstrates sound analytical thinking skills with regard to more complex tasks, scopes and projects.
- Collaborating with others – ability to anticipate the needs of others.
- Continuous learning – tries new approaches to maximize learning opportunities.
- 4+ years of related work experience.
- Field experience preferred.
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a four‑year college/university or equivalent experience.
- Moderate physical demands. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work, but may need to walk, stand, bend or lift moderately heavy items (25–50 pounds). The role may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilities such as above‑average agility and dexterity. Availability to travel as needed.
