Job Summary

The faculty member will be responsible for teaching vocational nursing theory and skills in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings, leading to successful program and student outcomes. Additionally, the individual will engage with the community, participate in official college events, and foster positive public relations to promote the philosophy of Midland College.

Required Qualifications

  • Current, unencumbered RN license or privilege to practice in Texas
  • Associate’s degree or diploma from a hospital-based nursing school
  • Recent nursing employment within the last three years or advanced preparation in nursing, education, or administration
  • Diverse post-graduation nursing experience, teaching abilities, and up-to-date knowledge, clinical expertise, and safety practices in the teaching area
  • Familiarity with nursing-related equipment
  • Proficiency in computer use and fluency in English
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record, meeting Midland College’s insurance requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing
  • Experience teaching nursing courses at a community college or university
  • Experience working with or precepting nursing students in clinical settings
  • Familiarity with online management systems like Canvas
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software, including Word and Power Point

Essential Functions

  • Fulfill faculty responsibilities as outlined in the Midland College Faculty Handbook
  • Assist with program operations, including scheduling, teaching, lab management, and curriculum development
  • Teach and supervise students in the didactic, clinical, and skills lab settings
  • Oversee student orientation, clinical assignments, and learning opportunities for the main and satellite campuses, including using interactive video conferencing technology
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum
  • Assess student learning outcomes, including online testing
  • Contribute to creating and enforcing standards and policies in the Midland College Catalog and relevant handbooks
  • Support student recruitment, advising, admissions, withdrawals, and graduation processes
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with civic and healthcare organizations
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements and standards set by the Texas Board of Nursing to maintain program approval
  • Attend educational, campus, and departmental meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Remain stationary for extended periods, with the ability to alternate between sitting and standing as needed (approximately 50% of the time)
  • Occasionally move or drive to on- and off-campus locations
  • Travel to clinical sites, training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
  • Perform repetitive keyboarding and tasks requiring manual dexterity
  • Communicate effectively in person, electronically, and by phone
  • Bend, reach overhead, and lift/move up to 20 pounds, including teaching equipment and supplies
  • Occasionally work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events as needed
  • Set up medical equipment, mannequins, and supplies for skills and simulation practice
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others verbally and electronically; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
