RRC - Engineering Specialist I - Oil and Gas Field Inspector - Midland (Mitchell, Howard, Scurry, and Sterling County)
Join the Railroad Commission of Texas as a Field Inspector in the Midland District Office. This role involves performing technical inspections, collecting engineering and geological data, and ensuring compliance with state regulations.
Responsibilities- Observe drilling operations and conduct rig inspections for compliance.
- Inspect well plugging, surface casing cementing, and injection/disposal wells for mechanical integrity.
- Conduct general lease inspections and ensure compliance with statewide rules.
- Perform and analyze fluid level tests and gauge storage at lease batteries.
- Use gauge lines, color cut, and testing equipment for titration of fluids.
- Investigate well complaints, document findings, and submit detailed reporting forms.
- Collect and correlate engineering and geological data; excavate and collect soil samples.
- Respond to emergency H₂S situations and report findings to district office management.
- Compose and submit reports using Oracle and/or Microsoft Office.
- Communicate technical information to industry employees and the public.
- Walk up to two miles, in various weather conditions, to complete inspections.
- Perform related essential tasks as assigned; may work nights, weekends, or holidays.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Four years of experience in engineering or the oil & gas industry.
- Experience and education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- Applicant must live in or be willing to move to Mitchell, Howard, Scurry, or Sterling County, Texas.
- Preferred: B.S. in Engineering, Geology, or other scientific degree from an accredited university OR associate degree/technical certification.
- Knowledge of geological concepts, tools, and protective gear.
- Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database applications.
- Valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record.
- Ability to drive and perform basic maintenance on pickup truck and walk up to two miles in varying weather.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move 20–30 lbs, operate ladders up to 16 ft, climb ladders, and discern colors.
- Ability to work independently for long periods while meeting workload demands.
