Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician / Senior Engineering Technician to help grow our contaminated site assessment and remediation services in Midland, Texas
. The position will assist with sample collection of diverse materials including, but not limited to, soil, sediment, water, and air for environmental tests; compile construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring data related to landfill and environmental remediation construction projects, provide neat, accurate, and comprehensive documentation of all field-related activities to senior level project personnel; and provide additional field and office support to geologists and engineers for a diverse private and public sector client base.

The role requires the ability to comprehend construction plans and specifications and a strong willingness to perform extensive fieldwork and travel for extensive periods of time, including overnights, weekends, and holidays; and a strong willingness to work outdoors. An interest in building a career in the environmental consulting field is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, geosynthetics, and other materials primarily associated with landfill and/or waste containment system construction.
  • Perform in-place moisture-density results to verify project compaction requirements are met.
  • Oversee drilling, logging of borings, and instrumentation installation.
  • Monitor activities on job sites to assure compliance with relevant contract documents (e.g., technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, CQA plans etc.).
  • Provide CQA monitoring on several types of construction and/or environmental activities on enviro-civil construction sites.
  • Prepare daily and weekly field reports, construction schedules & progress reports;
  • Assure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures.
  • Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation in work progress meetings.
  • Assist in the preparation of the final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices.
  • Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site‑specific project health and safety plans and the company's Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures.
  • Perform tasks in other company practice areas including general construction services, environmental sampling, contractor oversight, or construction quality assurance activities, as needed.
  • Training:
    This position requires OSHA health and safety, radiation safety (for a portable soil moisture/density gauge), first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring that will be paid for by Geosyntec. We also offer professional and technical development opportunities including in‑house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our staff to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.

  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of four (4) years of applicable experience; or an Associate degree or equivalent from a two‑year college and a minimum of two (2) years of applicable experience; or a Bachelor's degree in science, construction management, engineering, physical science, environmental science, or related subjects; or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, Technical experience in construction services, geotechnical, environmental, or related engineering disciplines.
