About the PermianStraddling West Texas and southeastern New Mexico, the Permian is the most prolific oil and gas basin in America and a key driver of the U.S. energy industry. The merger of Exxon Mobil and Pioneer has created an uncontrolled business with the largest, high‑return development potential in the Permian Basin. We hold more than 1.4 million net acres in the Delaware and Midland basins, with an estimated 16 billion barrels of oil equivalent resource.
In 2023, we produced an average of 612,000 barrels a day, and we aim to reach 1 million barrels per day by the end of 2027.
- The Shutdown Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing scheduled shutdowns and turnarounds for production facilities in the Midland Basin. This role ensures safe, efficient, and timely execution of shutdown activities while minimizing downtime and supporting the company’s growth objectives. The position requires strong leadership, cross‑functional collaboration, and expertise in shutdown management processes.
- Provide early design input to Brownfield Expansion Projects to incorporate O&M learnings and minimize downtime.
- Lead development and finalization of Shutdown Plans, including categorization, scope definition, execution timing/sequence, and isolation philosophy.
- Coordinate with multifunctional planning teams to deliver:
- Lean scope reviews
- Integrated shutdown schedules
- Checkpoint deliverables (Checkpoint 1, Checkpoint 2, Go/No‑Go)
- Supporting plans (Communication, Contingency, Emergency Response, Staffing, Contractor Summary)
- Steward tracking of integrated plan activities through the Go/No‑Go decision.
- Ensure completion of pre‑work requirements (materials, initial activities, etc.), detailed isolation plans, and MOCs.
- Oversee execution plans and work permits.
- Facilitate reviews with senior leadership at key checkpoints and post‑shutdown lookbacks.
- Mentor less experienced Shutdown Coordinators to build organizational capability.
- Support development and refinement of integrated shutdown scheduling tools (Primavera, MS Project).
- Provide feedback on future enhancements, including KPIs for shutdown execution and crash planning processes for unplanned events.
Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Ability to lead cross‑functional teams under tight timelines.
- Analytical mindset with focus on efficiency and risk mitigation.
- 7+ years of experience in oil & gas operations, with at least 3 years in shutdown/turnaround planning and execution.
- Strong knowledge of isolation planning, MOC processes, and safety standards.
- Proficiency in scheduling tools (Primavera, MS Project).
- Experience in Lean methodology and continuous improvement practices preferred.
