Operations Geologist

Employment Type: Long-Term Contract with Potential Conversion

Corner Stone Staffing is partnering with a leading oil and gas company in Midland to hire an Operations Geologist supporting horizontal drilling operations.

This is a strong opportunity for an early-career geologist, geophysicist or engineer looking to build hands-on experience in operations geology and geosteering. The team is open to candidates who are recent graduates or early in their career.

Responsibilities

• Support geosteering and wellbore placement for horizontal wells
• Interpret geological and drilling data to support real-time operational decisions
• Work with geologists, mud loggers, reservoir engineers and drilling engineers
• Review mud logs, MWD data, seismic information and well logs
• Assist with well planning and drilling-related technical analysis
• Provide geological and engineering input to help maintain the desired wellbore path
• Support technical decision-making throughout drilling operations

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics, Engineering or a related field
• 0–3 years of relevant oilfield, geological or engineering experience preferred
• Internship, mud logging, drilling or geosteering experience is highly valued
• Understanding of drilling operations and subsurface interpretation
• Strong analytical skills and willingness to learn
• Ability to work onsite in Midland
• Availability for occasional weekend on-call support

Nice to haves

• Experience with Petra, Kingdom, Spotfire, Well View or similar geological/drilling applications
• Permian or Delaware Basin experience

The position is expected to begin as a long-term contract, with the potential to convert to a full-time position based on performance and business needs. The company provides significant hands-on training and is looking for someone who wants to grow within an Operations Geology team.

Relocation support may be available for qualified candidates outside the Midland area.
