General Summary & ScopeThe Master Stylist engages with guests, consults on their hair care needs, and recommends products and services. The Master Stylist delivers quality professional services with an emphasis on the guest’s total look, supporting the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) through service sales, productivity, guest service, and compliance standards. This position requires a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and a strong aptitude for learning and communicating product knowledge.
PrincipalDuties & Responsibilities
- Performance: Perform hair services including design, cuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (where applicable).
- Meet or exceed the $1,250 average weekly sales goal and productivity targets for hair services while contributing to store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
- Perform product demonstrations with guests to drive sales and enhance the guest service experience.
- Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives that deliver an unrivaled guest experience.
- Stay informed about new industry trends, products, and services; be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
- Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
- People: Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
- Serve all guests, including walk‑in guests, in a timely and efficient manner.
- Partner with skin therapists and the retail team for a total‑store experience.
- Build professional peer and brand partner relationships that foster collaborative delivery of exceptional guest experience.
- Share benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, with guests.
- Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous professional development.
- Process: Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services; always comply with state board guidelines.
- Follow established service protocols for consistency and excellence.
- Utilize booking and clientele systems for return services and events.
- Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
- Maintain outstanding store operational standards in the salon, sales floor, restrooms, backroom, and break area.
- Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
- Protect company assets through loss prevention best practices.
- Execute other operational tasks as directed.
- Education: Cosmetology license.
- Experience: Previous relevant work experience is required.
- Skills: Proficiency with latest salon techniques (haircutting, color, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, ear piercing) and aptitude to develop skills in all categories; proficiency with equipment and chemicals; ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell pro hair care and makeup products; strong communication; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.
- Special Position Requirements: Work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Working Conditions: Continuous mobility; lifting/moving up to 10 lbs.; frequent bending, reaching, twisting; stand for long periods; continuous coordination and manipulation of objects.
