Responsible for the billing and collections of physician claims. This position files physician claims for reimbursement, including electronic and paper submissions. It monitors physician systems, billing and patient accounting systems, department reports, and takes corrective action to ensure accuracy in claim filing to payers. The coordinator functions in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and institutional policies. Additionally, the role is responsible for consistent commercial insurance follow‑up of physician claims greater than 30 days aged from final bill date, resolving them in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
It requires building relationships with individual insurance payers/clients to maximize response for timely and accurate payment. Patient accounts are monitored for accurate payment or non‑payment, and compliant actions are taken for account reimbursement.
Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Essential Functions / Performance Expectations- Resolution of all billing claims; electronic and manual. End‑of‑month reporting and distribution of reports to contracted physicians.
- Understanding, explaining and handling referral/authorization issues, pre‑authorization requirements, verifications, appeals, and medical necessity issues.
- Timely follow‑up of claims, including completing additional tasks to assure claims are paid timely. Respond timely to insurance and billing inquiries made in person, by mail or over the phone. Complete all billing edits.
- Awareness, knowledge, and cognitive ability in the use of 1500 form locators, ICD‑10 codes, CPT codes, and modifiers.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of billing or coding experience preferred.
