Licensed Vocational Nurse / Nights – Corr Health
Location:
Midland, TX
Schedule:
6:00p-6:00a, 36/48 rotation
A Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse assists in inmate care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Under the supervision of an RN, directs and guides inmate teaching and activities commensurate with education and competencies.
EssentialJob Duties
- Assist in the assessment of the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of inmates in the Health Care Unit and housing units under RN supervision.
- Plan and implement individual treatment programs, using knowledge, diagnostic tests, resources, and consults with RNs and other staff.
- Administer medications according to proper techniques and procedures, including IV therapy (when certified), and approved routes.
- Assist the provider in evaluations, medical procedures, and minor surgical procedures, using SOAP charting.
- Obtain body fluid specimens and perform EKGs using proper techniques.
- Maintain and document controlled substances and medical equipment.
- Intervene in a variety of situations with proper safety techniques, procedures, and standard precautions.
- Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans as ordered by provider.
- Triage and assess healthcare requests.
- Graduate from an accredited LPN/LVN program.
- Maintain current LPN/LVN licensure in the state of employment.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication with coworkers, supervisors, jail administration, and patients.
- Excellent verbal and written comprehension.
- Excellent deductive reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to use and learn computer software, including site-specific programs.
- Appropriate and safe use of standard medical equipment.
- Respect for the dignity and confidentiality of inmates.
- Maintain all certifications, educational requirements, and licensure.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Current TB test (within one year).
- Adhere to facility policies, procedures, and Employee Handbook.
- Willingness to assist coworkers and work overtime if required.
- Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
- Remain stationary and move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs.
- Position oneself in different spaces.
- Communicate accurately with patients.
- Detect objects and assess situations from various distances.
- Remain calm in stressful conditions.
- Transport objects up to 50 pounds.
Work is performed inside a correctional facility. Employees are exposed to some level of risk and/or harm by inmates, including exposure to blood borne pathogens. Employees are expected to work in accordance with all security rules and regulations to minimize risk.
