Job Description

The surgical technologist serves as an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

Full Time 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday-Friday, with on-call requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Assess, project, and plan for procedural needs.

Possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.

Combine knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduate from a surgical technology program accredited through ARC/STSA, a collaborative effort of AST and ACS, by CAAHEP. CAAHEP is a recognized accreditation agency of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Surgical technology programs are located in educational institutions that are accredited by agencies recognized by the USDE or The Joint Commission. ARC/STSA is a member of ASPA.

Ability to assess, project, and plan for procedural needs.

Possess expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques.

Combine knowledge of anatomy, surgical procedures, and tools to assist invasive procedures.

Must become certified within 180 days of graduation from a surgical technologist program if hired as a Surgical Tech I without certification.

Employees hired prior to 2009 who graduated from an accredited surgical technology program may be grandfathered into the position.
