Infusion Nurse, Independent Contractor Midland, Texas

Base pay range: $45.00/hr - $53.00/hr

Position Overview

An Infusion Nurse, Independent Contractor is an RN who diagnoses and treats patients receiving infusion therapy. The nurse is responsible for providing primary patient care, patient and family education, and coordination with AOM Infusion’s in‑house RN staff to develop, implement, and revise each patient’s plan of care.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities
  • Assess and document the patient’s biophysical, psychosocial, and educational needs.
  • Perform a physical assessment, report identified problems to the patient’s physician and in‑house RN staff.
  • Collaborate with in‑house RN staff on nursing care plans consistent with physician orders.
  • Identify and report changes in the patient’s condition that require a plan‑of‑care adjustment.
  • Provide comprehensive patient and family education on disease states, prescribed therapy, infection control, and disaster planning.
  • Insert, maintain, and assess all IV access devices; report issues to in‑house RN staff to adjust supply needs and track Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs).
  • Perform all treatments per the physician’s plan of care.
  • Initiate discharge planning, documenting needs and changes, and verbalizing as required.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgment and expertise in planning and decision‑making in partnership with in‑house RN staff.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all patient care needs for an assigned group of patients with the healthcare team.
  • Maintain high nursing care standards and implement AOM Infusion policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate nursing visits and care consistent with physician orders; report changes as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain patient supply inventory; report shortages or overstocking to pharmacy.
  • Maintain an inventory of emergency backup supplies for infection control and emergency care.
  • When assigned an infusion pump, clean, test, and document the pump per AOM policy; submit the Pump Maintenance Log monthly.
  • Complete all required patient‑care documentation; submit electronically via company‑supplied iPad, obtaining patient signature.
  • Adhere to universal precautions, aseptic technique, and infection‑control guidelines; include these techniques in patient education.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and AOM policy.
Quality Assurance Responsibilities
  • Complete charting per AOM documentation policy within the required timeframe.
  • Report adverse events after each visit to in‑house RN staff or RN on call; document in Unusual Occurrence Report, if required.
  • Report suspected noncompliance or breaches to federal, state, local regulations or AOM Infusion policies to the Compliance Officer or Committee.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • Licensed and registered as an RN in the states where practicing.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • At least one year of RN experience, preferably in a home infusion setting.
  • Experience with pediatric patients (one year) or ability to become competent in pediatric home infusion practices.
  • Knowledge of infusion access devices: peripheral lines, PICC lines, central venous catheters, including implantable ports.
  • Free from communicable diseases, illnesses, or injuries that would interfere with job duties.
  • Flexible with work schedule; provide after‑hours care when possible and report actions via the system to in‑house RN staff or AOM On‑Call RN.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Intermittent visits based on nurse availability.
