Summary

The EH&S Power Director is assigned to specifically support Kodiak’s Power Division and work with local field level management, employees, and contractors to ensure that EH&S operating policies and conditions are consistently implemented in accordance with EH&S policies, goals, guidelines, and processes. This position is responsible for providing EH&S support for Power Operations, area field EH&S auditing, customer EH&S interface, support of EH&S training delivery, regulatory compliance, and incident investigation.

The EH&S Power Director acts as the local subject matter expert in matters of health, safety, and environmental and must implement and manage the corporate strategy related to the EH&S programs. A high degree of initiative is required, as well as the ability to work effectively in a matrix organizational structure. The EH&S Power Director is expected to have prior experience in supporting power plant installation, commissioning, and Operations & Maintenance.

Reports directly to the EH&S Senior Director.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform tasks involved in health, safety, environmental, training, inspections, and compliance.

  • Possess working knowledge of the power industry and be able to effectively apply EH&S principles to the power industry.

  • Educate Company employees in complying with Company EH&S policies and procedures.

  • Verify that all field employees understand and comply with all regulatory requirements and Company EH&S practices through site visits and auditing protocols.

  • Verify compliance regarding inventory, storage, handling, and transportation of non-hazardous materials used in conducting Company field operations.

  • Assist with conducting site inspections required or initiated by regulatory agencies.

  • Conduct EH&S audits for all Company operating areas to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement of overall EH&S performance.

  • Maintain a close working relationship with all Company personnel to verify the implementation and compliance with standard operating guidelines.

  • Audit field safety and environmental paperwork for accuracy and compliance with EH&S requirements.

  • Make and implement recommendations and improvements to safety, operations, and logistical effectiveness.

  • Assist and mentor Company operations personnel in safe work planning and practice.

  • Lead incident investigations, determining root causes, and preparing detailed and accurate root-cause analysis reports.

  • Provide EH&S training to field personnel on proper safety techniques including JSA completion, incident reporting, and other Company EH&S programs.

  • Actively promote and participate in Company EH&S programs.

  • Provide advice and guidance to Company supervisors and/or customer representatives to establish a safe working environment for employees and customers.

  • Lead by example to develop employee knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for conducting safe operations.

  • Support and participate in Company EH&S policy and procedure development, as required.

  • Attend Customer EH&S functions and act as Company EH&S representative for the Power Division.

  • Support environmental responses, as needed.

  • Other duties, as may be assigned.

Education & Certifications
  • BS/BA degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or closely related field required

  • PEC Core Compliance certification or equivalent for Safe Land / Safe Gulf USA preferred

  • OSHA 501 Certification for General Industry Safety Standards preferred

  • CSHO Certification (Certified Safety & Health Officer) strongly desired

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, be able to maintain an acceptable driving record in line with Company requirements and possess a clean driving record.
