SUMMARY
Protects the Courthouse and Annex, officials, employees, and patrons; enforces laws; and performs emergency response functions in county buildings. Other duties may be assigned:
- Conducts searches for weapons and contraband before entering the building.
- Patrols the County Courthouse and Annex, focusing on security and assisting occupants.
- Recommends security improvements to the sergeant.
- Operates x-ray, walk-through, and hand-wand security screening at the main entrance.
- Arrests violators and completes related paperwork.
- Responds to emergencies, alarms, calls, and complaints.
- Participates in deputy on-call rotation for two-week intervals.
- Investigates crimes against persons and property.
- Assists law enforcement agencies during emergencies.
- Provides security or bailiff services in courts as needed.
- Testifies in court when required.
- Transports prisoners to and from court.
- Guards the election office during voting periods.
- Monitors prisoner movement, intercoms, and surveillance cameras.
- Maintains inmate location and security in the courthouse.
- Completes mandated TCOLE hours and training.
- Performs special assignments as needed.
- Assists other divisions, courts, or personnel as directed.
- Maintains regular and timely attendance.
- Enforces laws of the U.S. and Texas.
- Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform essential functions.
- Abides by all applicable policies, laws, and ordinances.
- Performs any other duties assigned by the chain of command or Sheriff.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a non-supervisory position. Candidates must have a Basic Peace Officer and Jailer certification from TCOLE and at least one year of experience or equivalent education and experience. Skills include law enforcement procedures, security protocols, operation of vehicles and equipment, report writing, and effective communication. Must hold a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.
