Controller - Midlothian (150k-160k + Bonus)

LHH is working with a client that is looking for a new Controller. This candidate will oversee all accounting operations within the organization. This position will manage the full-cycle month‑end close, supervise the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. The Controller will also play a critical role in optimizing financial processes, managing a team of accounting professionals, and working closely with senior leadership to drive strategic financial decisions.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the entire month‑end close process, ensuring that all financial transactions are recorded accurately and within the required timelines. Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring that all transactions are properly classified and documented. Conduct regular reviews to confirm accuracy and compliance with accounting principles.
  • Supervise the AP and AR functions, ensuring that invoices are processed timely, payments are made, and collections are effectively managed. Implement controls to improve the accuracy and efficiency of billing and collections processes.
  • Manage payroll processing, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. Work closely with HR to ensure accurate management of employee compensation, benefits, and deductions.
  • Supervise a team of three accounting professionals, along with six indirect reports. Provide guidance, performance evaluations, coaching, and opportunities for professional development to strengthen team performance and morale.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline financial operations, reduce month‑end close timelines, and improve overall efficiency. Establish best practices and standardized procedures to support the company’s growth.
  • Prepare and present accurate, timely financial reports to senior management, including variance analysis, forecasts, and budgets. Provide valuable insights and recommendations to aid in strategic decision‑making.
  • Ensure adherence to financial regulations and internal policies. Develop and maintain strong internal controls to mitigate financial risks and protect company assets.
  • Work closely with teams across the organization to support business operations and drive financial performance. Address financial‑related inquiries and ensure alignment between departments.
  • Lead the optimization of Acumatica (or similar ERP systems) for financial reporting, data analysis, and process automation. Manage system enhancements and training initiatives to ensure team proficiency and efficiency.
  • Facilitate external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations. Address audit findings promptly and ensure resolution of any recommendations.
  • Contribute to financial planning and analysis activities, supporting the company’s long‑term financial goals. Collaborate with senior leadership to align financial resources with business objectives.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Strong expertise in full‑cycle accounting, month‑end close processes, and general ledger management.
  • Proven experience overseeing AP, AR, and payroll functions.
  • Experience with Acumatica or similar ERP systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial reporting, data analysis, and process automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams and develop staff in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
