Medical Lab Technician​/Medical Lab Scientist

Overview

Medical Lab Technician/Medical Lab Scientist role at Bon Secours Mercy Health. Night shift position at St Francis Medical Center, Midlothian, VA. This role involves performing tests on patient samples to detect diseases and reporting results to the ordering physician.

• Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures; interprets and analyzes results.
• Identifies and corrects problems within the scope of training and education.
• Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and validates lab equipment.
• Performs, records, and evaluates quality control.
• Assists Lead, Supervisor, or Manager with inventory, scheduling, and safety.
• Conducts competency assessments.
• May be responsible for developing and evaluating new methods of testing, depending on experience and position.

• Licensing/Certification: MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required).
• For RSFH (as of 3/27/25), if registry-eligible, must achieve certification within 12 months from hire date.
• Education:
  
  Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Science/Biomedical Science/Biology/Biochemistry; completion of a CLIA-approved program (required).
• Work Experience:
  
  Externship program completed (preferred).
