Job Description
The child in question is a sweet, yet feisty, and very bright little girl who loves gadgets, swimming, and playing outdoors. She will be starting to follow a mainstream curriculum at home, via the Neuro Me online platform. A facilitator has been requested by her parents to oversee the program and assist in her learning experience.
Main Purpose of the job: In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the educational journey of this child. Your responsibilities will include assisting her with understanding learning tasks, completing them appropriately, and supporting her individual learning, regulation, and sensory needs throughout the school day. The child is anxious and easily overwhelmed, and currently has a low tolerance for managing demands.
Managing these feelings appropriately will be an important part of the job. A low arousal/demand, and child-led approach to learning will be paramount in this role. It will be necessary to work closely with her multidisciplinary team and implement relevant support strategies necessary for further learning and development. A suitable candidate should be interested in neurodiversity and have a passion for supporting neurodivergent individuals.
Job Requirements:
∙ Experience tutoring/teaching/working with children, particularly those that are neurodivergent.
∙ Experience/learning relating to neurodivergence, Pathological Demand Avoidance and autism spectrum disorder are advantageous
∙ A gentle and kind, supportive, and child-led approach to working with children.
∙ Availability weekdays - 08h00 - 12h00 (Mon to Fri)
∙ Fluent in English
∙ Candidate should pride themselves in their empathy, kindness and ability to implement boundaries in a gentle but firm manner.
∙ Familiarity with the Neuro Me learning platform would be advantageous.
∙ A background / experience in teaching, or a teaching degree or diploma would be advantageous.
Job Objectives:
∙ To collaborate with a team to support the child’s needs.
∙ To facilitate social engagements with peers when needed and enhance social learning.
∙ To understand, accommodate and alleviate her sensory difficulties and anxiety around schooling.
∙ Integrate supportive tools into the learning environment as advised by her therapists and multi-disciplinary team.
BenefitsThere will be an opportunity to be trained by the NDC Facilitation Academy when the role commences, and support sessions are provided for one month thereafter, working in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team based at the Neurodiversity Centre.
RequirementsGeneral Requirements:
• A valid driver’s license and reliable car – Essential.
• Previous experience supporting young neurodiverse children – Desirable.
• Experience as a facilitator for neurodiverse children – Desirable.
• A heart for long-term commitment (preferably 2 years) – Essential
• Job-Related work experience: • - Previous experience in a role supporting neurodivergent children - Essential. • - Previous experience in teaching - Desirable • - Familiarity with special education strategies, curriculum adaptation, and life skills training. Job-Related Knowledge - Familiarity and knowledge of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) - Essential. • - Familiarity with low arousal, child-led, neuro-affirming approach - Essential.
• - Patience, empathy, and a commitment to building a trusting, supportive relationship with the child. • - Flexible and adaptable, able to adjust to the child’s needs and family’s schedule. • - Relevant certifications or qualifications in education, special education, psychology, or related fields – Desirable.
