Job Description
Tailings Engineer – Entry level, full‑time, Midrand. Join the Mine Waste team at WSP to deliver geotechnical and tailings services aligned with the WSP suite of engineering products.
Responsibilities- Provide tailings services on projects in the mining industry.
- Provide basic technical advice and consultancy on tailings and geotechnical issues.
- Start developing internal client relationships.
- Use basic techniques, modifications and extensions of theories and practices to synthesise and analyse data for decision making and recommendations.
- Keep abreast of advancing technologies, methods and research & development.
- Manage, analyse and report tailings data for projects, including design and inspection of mine waste storage facilities, construction of tailings deposits, operation and management of deposits, properties and behaviour of tailings, closure and deposit stability and seepage analysis, water storage designs and earthworks.
- Provide safety leadership in health & safety (HSSE incident reporting).
- Contribute to projects with a major focus on data collection and processing.
- Make decisions in limited situations under direction of intermediate and senior staff.
- Other duties as required.

- Achieve health and safety performance indicators in line with Golder targets.
- Relevant degree (BEng or BSc) in Civil Engineering with 3–4 years of post‑graduation experience and specialist skills in tailings and geotechnical engineering.
- Honors degree in the Geotechnical field is an advantage.
- Candidate registration at ECSA preferred.
- Knowledge of legislation related to engineering design supporting water use and waste management license applications.
- Financial knowledge (Understanding of Work in Progress, Accounts Receivable and DSO).
- Proven skills and experience to lead integrated mine waste projects with sound project management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel (Advanced), MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Projects.
- Proficiency in slope stability, seepage analysis and FEM software such as Geostudio and Slide.
- Proficiency in other engineering software is considered beneficial.
- Own vehicle preferred.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Passport.
