ALittle More About Your Role
WSP Africa's Power & Energy team is looking for a Senior Structural Lines Engineer – Transmission Lines to support the delivery of major transmission infrastructure projects across South Africa, the United Kingdom and international markets.
In this role, you will be responsible for the structural design and analysis of overhead transmission line structures, including steel lattice towers and monopoles, supporting projects ranging from 33kV to 400kV. You will contribute to both South African and UK-based transmission projects while ensuring compliance with local and international standards.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will collaborate with civil, electrical and geotechnical specialists to develop innovative and practical engineering solutions that support grid expansion, renewable energy integration and network reliability.
Responsibilities- Design and analyse transmission line structures including steel lattice towers and monopoles.
- Deliver designs in accordance with South African and international standards including Eskom, SANS, IEC 60826, BS EN 50341 and Eurocodes.
- Conduct structural assessments and develop reinforcement or replacement solutions for existing infrastructure.
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, drawings and engineering documentation for client and regulatory submissions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated and site-specific design solutions.
- Provide technical input and cost estimation support during tendering and procurement activities.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, utilities and regulatory authorities to support successful project delivery.
- Support project delivery across South Africa and the UK transmission sector.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Experience in the structural design of transmission line structures.
- Proficiency in PLS-CADD, TOWER, STAAD.Pro and SAP
2000. - Strong understanding of wind loading, conductor tensioning and foundation interaction.
- Knowledge of Eskom standards, TRMSCAAC1 and SANS requirements.
- Experience working on UK transmission projects or familiarity with UK grid standards would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of foundation design and geotechnical principles.
- Professional registration with ECSA or active progression towards registration.
- Uphold standards for SHEQ performance and behaviour consistent with WSP's health, safety, environmental and quality vision and policies.
- Contribute to the identification and management of SHEQ risks to support the achievement of Zero Harm.
- Promote WSP values and maintain a safe working environment at all times.
