Estimator - Overhead Line

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Aurex is seeking an experienced Estimator – Overhead Lines to support the successful delivery of transmission and distribution infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for overhead line projects, supporting tender submissions and contributing to Aurex's continued growth within the energy sector.

This role requires strong technical, commercial, and analytical capabilities, with experience in estimating overhead transmission and distribution line projects within EPC, construction, or utility environments.

• Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
• Minimum 5–10 years' estimating experience within the electrical, power, transmission, distribution, or construction industry.
• Proven experience estimating overhead line projects
  , including transmission and distribution networks.
• Strong understanding of EPC, construction, and project costing principles.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, line profiles, route plans, and technical specifications.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.

• Eskom transmission and distribution projects.
• Utility-scale power infrastructure projects.
• Renewable energy grid connection projects.
• Overhead lines from 11kV to 400kV and above.
• Southern African and regional power infrastructure projects.

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for overhead transmission and distribution line projects.
• Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, BOQs, and scope requirements.
• Develop accurate labour, plant, material, subcontractor, and equipment cost estimates.
• Compile pricing schedules and commercial submissions.
• Maintain estimating databases and historical cost records.

• Analyse project designs, route information, and technical specifications.
• Identify scope risks, exclusions, assumptions, and opportunities.
• Liaise with engineering and construction teams to validate project requirements.
• Support value engineering initiatives during the tender phase.

• Conduct commercial reviews and tender risk assessments.
• Assist in developing bid strategies to improve competitiveness and profitability.
• Prepare tender qualifications, assumptions, and clarifications.
• Evaluate project risks and pricing contingencies.

• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Compare pricing, technical compliance, and delivery schedules.
• Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers and service providers.

• Prepare tender summaries, cost breakdowns, and management reports.
• Participate in tender adjudication meetings.
• Support contract negotiations and client clarification meetings.
• Assist with project handovers following successful tender awards.
