Development Manager

Location:

Midrand

Purpose of the Role

The Development Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery of software solutions through outsourced development partners. The role serves as the key link between business stakeholders, Product Owners, and vendors, ensuring that development work is delivered on time, within scope, and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities Vendor Management
  • Manage day-to-day delivery of outsourced development vendors.
  • Track delivery milestones, timelines, risks, and dependencies.
  • Hold vendors accountable for agreed deliverables, quality, and reporting.
  • Manage change requests and delivery impacts.
Delivery Coordination
  • Coordinate the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle.
  • Work closely with Product Owners on planning, prioritisation, releases, and deployments.
  • Manage dependencies across multiple vendors and projects.
  • Maintain visibility of all ongoing and planned development initiatives.
Requirements & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure business requirements are clear, complete, prioritised, and testable.
  • Support Product Owners in refining user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Review requirements before submission to vendors to minimise rework and defects.
Governance & Reporting
  • Facilitate vendor meetings, sprint reviews, and delivery status updates.
  • Produce regular delivery reports for business and technology stakeholders.
  • Maintain delivery documentation, risk logs, and decision records.
Minimum Requirements Qualifications
  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Relevant IT qualification advantageous.
  • Agile, Scrum, or Project Management certification advantageous.
Experience
  • 3-5 years' experience in software delivery, development coordination, or technical project management.
  • Experience managing outsourced development vendors or system integrators.
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and concurrent work streams.
  • Financial services or insurance industry experience advantageous.
