Position Summary

Assisting the homeless education team to remove barriers to full participation and connect students and families to resources needed to be successful.

Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Prior experience in education, mental health, or social work setting highly preferred

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assist in general implementation of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Program.
  • Assist students and families through fostering communication between stakeholders and implementing strategies to improve instructional access.
  • Meet with school officials, DHS caseworkers, family, and community agency personnel to advocate for the best educational program for individual students.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and professional growth activities.
  • Refers students to partnering agencies for nutrition, medical, mental, and other health-related needs for well-being.
  • Speaks to community groups to inform and to encourage their partnership with the school district.
  • Promote and support a high level of student attendance and achievement through assistance with student health, education, activities, residence, and transportation.
  • Maintain program presence in the assigned school(s) through office hours, availability to meet with students and families as needed, and consistent needs assessments with students in the program.
  • Work collaboratively and flexibly within an established team to adapt to novel challenges.
  • Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.
Language And Grammar Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.
