JOB TITLE: Advanced Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic Repair Technology
SALARY LEVEL: MDTC Salary Schedule Part-Time $20-$40 an hour
DEPARTMENT: Tinker Technology Center
REPORTS TO: Supervisor/Director of Tinker Technology Center
Position SummaryInstruct and demonstrate to students basic to advanced aircraft mechanic skills and knowledge through theory and demonstration. The employee must be a highly skilled professional who excels in the repair, fabrication, and installation of various sheet metal components for aircraft. Must have experience with precision fabrication, blueprint interpretation, and mathematical expertise. The employee must also have experience with various hand and power tools, slip roll forming machines, box and pan brakes, beading and tubing machines for fabrication and repair.
Must have knowledge of safety practices and compliance with OSHA guidelines.
- Be proficient with using all aircraft structural repair power and hand tools such as drill, shears, and snips.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, assemble, and install sheet metal parts frames and panels on aircraft structures, repair or replace damaged sheet metal parts using hand and power tools.
- Strong understanding of aircraft structures and systems as well as fabrication and repair techniques.
- High School diploma or GED. Minimum of five years of journeyman aircraft mechanic experience.
- Prior teaching experience with strong verbal skills preferred.
- Must be able to obtain DOD clearance.
- Instruct aircraft structural repair technology with an organized lesson plan.
- Demonstrate system repair procedures and be able to use all shops hand tools and equipment safely.
- Demonstrate sheet metal fabrication techniques, including hammer forming, riveting, and layout design.
- Demonstrate metal shaping and forming using power and hand tools, will shape and form metal into aircraft parts and components.
- Demonstrate repairing and replacing damaged metal parts or components within the aircraft, assembling, and joining of fabricated parts using rivets, bolts, etc.
- Complete all paperwork, reports and CBTs as needed.
- Monitor and inventory the use of sheet metal and all supplies needed for class.
- Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Power Point, and other software programs.
- Maintain cleanliness in the classroom, instructor office, library, lab and shops areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud. To ensure continuity of services, a different work location may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings.
