Overview In this role you lead mechanical and cooling engineering for STACK’s EMEA portfolio, ensuring safe, compliant and high-performance infrastructure. You act as the Authorising Engineer for Mechanical Safety Rules, shaping design, commissioning and operating standards. You will collaborate with operations, engineering, delivery and vendors to boost resilience, efficiency and water use across hyperscale facilities. The opportunity focuses on strategic governance and continuous improvement in critical environments.
Responsibilities Provide technical leadership on mechanical and cooling systems across the EMEA portfolio
Develop and maintain engineering standards, equipment specs and resilience strategies
Support modelling, performance analysis and validation of systems
Review design, submissions, and commissioning for compliance with requirements
Support commissioning, acceptance and handover of new facilities and upgrades
Define operational acceptance criteria and documentation standards
Act as AE for Mechanical Safety Rules ensuring governance and compliance
Support asset lifecycle planning and continuous improvement programs
Conduct technical assurance reviews and site audits to improve safety and performance
Provide escalation support during major incidents and lead root cause analysis
Identify opportunities to improve cooling performance and water utilisation
Oversee vendors, contractors and service providers for consistency and quality
Coach and mentor engineers and operational teams
Qualifications Extensive experience with mission-critical mechanical and cooling infrastructure, especially in data centres
Experience reviewing and supporting design of mission-critical mechanical systems
Advanced knowledge of cooling systems and critical infrastructure in high-availability facilities
Strong understanding of resilience, risk management and asset lifecycle in live environments
Experience with design reviews, commissioning, acceptance and technical assurance
Ability to develop engineering standards, governance frameworks and best practices
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with structured risk management
Ability to influence and collaborate across engineering, operations and delivery teams
Bachelor or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; professional accreditation desirable
Strong written and verbal English; experience across European markets advantageous
