The Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our fast‑growing Infrastructure team, in our Milan Office, who will deliver local and global projects including landmark projects in Italy and major infrastructures in Europe and the UK for Italian and global clients and contractors.

The variety of projects and the internal research opportunities provide a great environment where to develop technical skills and the delivery of complex mega projects.

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at Arup, you will:

Guide and deliver geotechnical design packages for complex building and infrastructure projects in Italy and internationally.

Collaborate closely with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated, high‑quality engineering solutions.

Plan and manage geotechnical investigations, including fieldwork, laboratory testing, data interpretation, and ground modelling.

Carry out advanced geotechnical and numerical analyses, producing calculations, drawings, specifications, and clear technical reports.

Coordinate work packages across multiple projects and proposals, ensuring quality, consistency, and timely delivery.

Support, mentor, and develop junior colleagues, contributing to a collaborative and inclusive team culture.

Contribute to technical excellence, digital innovation, and knowledge sharing within Arup’s global geotechnical community.

We're looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for global infrastructure and building projects who is passionate about challenging design problems and has a strong interest in innovation and optimisation. We also value:

Qualifications and Requirements

A Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.

5‑10 years’ of relevant experience in geotechnical design on medium to large‑scale projects, or equivalent expertise gained through diverse career paths.

Strong experience in geotechnical and numerical analysis using industry‑standard software.

Solid engineering judgement with excellent planning, organisational, and time‑management skills.

Interest in digital engineering and BIM; experience with 3D modelling or GIS is an advantage.

Proven ability to work effectively in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams.

Fluency in Italian and English.
