Overview

As a Shortage Control Associate (SCA), you play a key role in maintaining store security by monitoring entrances and high‑risk areas to reduce theft opportunities. You will engage with customers in a confident, friendly, and energetic manner while upholding company core values.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a professional appearance, wearing designated dress standards, radio, and earpiece.
  • Stand positioned at the front of the store, remaining vigilant and aware of your surroundings.
  • Greet every customer entering or exiting the store with a warm smile and a loud, friendly greeting, promoting a sense of control and security.
  • Create a secure environment and reduce opportunities for theft.
  • Communicate theft‑prevention information during store rallies and collaborate with the Manager on Duty.
  • Conduct bag and package checks on store and corporate associates, ensuring adherence to safety and security standards.
  • Identify and report theft incidents and suspicious subjects to the Manager on Duty.
  • Support training of associates on shortage‑reduction programs and processes.
  • Role‑model safety as a top priority and address any unsafe practices promptly.
Knowledge & Communication
  • Expertise in top shortage areas and supporting theft‑reduction programs.
  • Effectively communicate theft‑prevention information during store rallies.
  • Understand the role you play in keeping your store and assets safe and secure.
Experience & Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, asset protection, loss prevention, or operations.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and visually monitor the store environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to review, analyze, and comprehend business trends.
  • Positive demeanor, strong posture, and energetic greeting.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment with detailed focus and disciplined decision‑making.
  • Excellent communication with customers and co‑workers.
  • Excellent leadership skills that support fostering productive business relationships.
Schedule & Compensation
  • Part‑time position with a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Base pay: $16.35 per hour.
  • Part‑time associates may be eligible for Burlington’s benefits package (medical coverage and 401(k)), up to four hours of paid time off after one year, eight paid holidays, and paid sick time in accordance with applicable law.
