The Patient Flow Manager is responsible for coordinating patient placement and optimizing throughput across Milford Regional Medical Center. This includes collaboration with Nursing, Environmental Services (EVS), Transport, and Staffing to ensure timely admissions, discharges, and transfers. The role provides clinical guidance on patient placement based on unit‑specific criteria and directly manages the Float Pool staff to support hospital‑wide staffing needs.
I. Major Responsibilities- Manage patient flow throughout the facility to ensure timely placement and discharge.
- Monitor OR and cardiac cath lab schedules to optimize bed availability.
- Provide clinical guidance on patient placement based on unit‑specific criteria.
- Communicate daily with providers, nursing, and administration through rounding, huddles, and email.
- Facilitate daily bed meetings and safety huddles.
- Direct and supervise assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training; make recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions; resolve grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
- Develop and recommend the budgets for the areas managed; manage activities to assure financial goals are met.
- Coordinate the assignment of tasks and help resolve technical and operational problems; evaluate the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
- Provide effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation; foster the effective integration of efforts with system‑wide initiatives.
- Encourage and support diverse views and approaches, demonstrate Standards of Respect, and contribute to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license.
- BLS certification.
Preferred:
- BS Degree in Nursing.
- Certification in clinical specialty.
Required:
- Five or more years of progressively responsible hospital nursing experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate across departments.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Department‑specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
