Position: SALES REPRESENTATIVE GARDEN CENTER

Classification: Nonexempt

Salary Grade/Level/Family/Range: Staff

Reports to: Garden Center Manager/Nursery Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective

The sales representative position is responsible for maintaining guest service, generating sales, housekeeping, merchandising, signing, pricing, cash register operations (POS) and loss prevention in adherence to all company policy/store standards.

Essential Functions
  • Ensure that each guest receives outstanding guest service by providing a guest friendly environment, including greeting and acknowledging every guest, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of guest service.
  • Maintain an awareness of all product information, merchandise promotions, test merchandise and advertisements.
  • Assist in floor moves, merchandising, display maintenance and store housekeeping.
  • Assist in processing and replenishing merchandise; participate in receiving and monitoring floor stock; ensure re-wraps are done promptly.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and practices, including signing, pricing, and loss prevention.
  • Accurately and efficiently complete all sales transactions and maintain proper cash and media accountabilities at POS registers.
  • Communicate guest requests to management.
  • Maintain all plant material in the retail area, including but not limited to watering, pruning, scouting for insects and disease, etc.
  • Restocking the retail yard with plants out of the wholesale area and communicating with the Nursery Manager and Garden Center Manager on material quantities and future needs.

    Requirements Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred

    Education and Experience
  • 1-3 years of sales experience.
  • Associates or Bachelor degree in horticulture, landscape design or plant biology preferred.
