Position SummaryThe Auxiliary Teacher assists the Lead Teacher in delivering a safe, developmentally appropriate preschool program in accordance with Office of School Readiness (OSR) guidelines. The role requires 187 days of service, including 180 days of classroom instruction and 7 days of pre/post‑planning and staff training. The teacher works 7.5 hours per day: 6.5 hours of instruction and 1 hour of planning with the Lead Teacher.
EssentialFunctions
- Assist the Lead Teacher with curriculum implementation, comprehensive lesson plans, and necessary materials.
- Help create a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that supports children’s learning and growth.
- Manage the classroom, maintain control, and serve as a role model using clear safety and mutual respect rules and age‑appropriate discipline methods.
- Communicate with parents daily regarding room activities and child progress.
- Preserve accurate classroom records and emergency contact information while protecting confidentiality.
- Display a positive attitude conducive to good public relations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of OSR policies and procedures.
- Participate in ongoing in‑service and educational development opportunities provided by YMCA.
- Perform additional tasks as determined by the Program Director, Lead Teacher, or OSR teaching coach.
- Assist with small‑group activities designed by the Lead Teacher.
- Support all classroom documentation requirements.
- Supervise students during non‑instructional times (lunch, nap, recess, etc.).
- Participate in family involvement activities.
Must be 19 years or older, possess a high school diploma or GED, and either have a Child Development Associate credential or at least 9 credit hours of college coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution. Minimum of 12 months of experience in early childhood or other OSR‑approved settings is required.
Current certifications: CPR, First Aid/AED or within 30 days of hire. YMCA Safety Trainings completed.
