US Director, Strategic Training Programs

Every day we deliver safe and secure energy to homes, communities, and businesses. We are there when people need us the most. We connect people to the energy they need for the lives they live. The pace of change in society and our industry is accelerating and our expertise and track record puts us in an unparalleled position to shape the sustainable future of our industry.

To be successful we must anticipate the needs of our customers, reducing the cost of energy delivery today and pioneering the flexible energy systems of tomorrow. This requires us to deliver on our promises and always look for new opportunities to grow, both ourselves and our business.

About the Role

This role serves as the US enterprise owner of Supervising at Grid, Instructor Excellence, and the Engineering Academy across New York and Massachusetts. The Director will provide strategic oversight and continuous improvement for the established Instructor Excellence and Engineering Academy programs while leading the continued evolution, scaled US delivery, and business impact of the developed and piloted Supervising at Grid program for frontline field operations supervisors.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished learning and development professional with proven facilitation expertise, a strong understanding of effective classroom instruction, and the ability to coach and mentor internal training faculty. The candidate will oversee both vendor-delivered and internally facilitated learning and combine instructional leadership, organizational effectiveness, academic rigor, and strong business partnership. Utility or energy industry experience is preferred but not required.

In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and US enterprise ownership for three flagship development programs across New York and Massachusetts:
Supervising at Grid, Instructor Excellence, and the Engineering Academy. As Director, you will ensure these programs build leadership and instructional capability, meet business and workforce needs, and deliver consistent, high-quality learning experiences and measurable business outcomes across US operations.

At National Grid, this role will help build the leadership and instructional capability needed to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable energy to the communities we serve. As the energy industry evolves, the Director will connect program strategy, academic rigor, practical application, and enterprise-scale delivery to strengthen operational excellence, employee engagement, safety, and organizational performance.

What You’ll Do

  • Sustain and advance the established Instructor Excellence and Engineering Academy programs by strengthening curriculum, delivery quality, faculty capability, governance, learner experience, and measurable business impact.
  • Establish common academic rigor, instructional standards, and quality assurance across all three programs, including program design, facilitation, assessment, learner experience, and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with colleges, universities, executive education providers, professional associations, and external learning partners to expand insight, capability, and program reach.
