JOB SUMMARYServes as a Summer Camp Counselor by assisting the Camp in supervising and leading activities during a four to seven day summer camp experience at an Outdoor Education Center. Each camp has a different age range and program emphasis. Some of the camps require the Counselors to stay overnight during the camp.
Pool Lifeguard/Aquatics Instructor - Arlington Echo - Aquatic summer staff teaches swim instruction, conducts boating instruction and water safety, helps with pool operation and serves as lifeguards. Current lifeguard certification and pool operator's license required. Senior Instructors - must have experience as a classroom teacher or as a junior instructor at AACPS Camps and be at least 21 years or older.
Hourly rate is $30.00. Junior Instructors - must have experience as a camp instructor or camp instructor in training. 16 years or older would work with early childhood campers (Pre‑K – 4th grade) and 18 years or older would work with the upper elementary to high school age campers. Hourly rate is $15.00. During the application process you will select the camp(s) of interest to you.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists and works directly with the Summer Camp Director/Assistant Director in planning and leading activities for the campers.
- Supervises campers throughout the day and night if applicable.
- Organizes the set up and break down of necessary equipment and materials needed for instructional programs and activities.
- Assists in developing instructional materials and activities for use in the outdoor education program.
- Directs and oversees dining hall meal procedures to assure proper meal atmosphere and behavior.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Completed of 9th grade at the time of camp required.
- Experience in working with children in a group setting
- Ability to work as a team member with other counselors and adult staff members.
- Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient and willing to learn.
