Job Description :
At L3
Harris in Millersville, MD we manufacture Towed Arrays as part of Integrated Mission Systems. As a manufacturing engineer for the organization, you are responsible for implementing and optimizing manufacturing processes to increase production efficiency and product quality. Optimally, a manufacturing engineer can work cross-functionally with a team of design engineers, quality engineers and operations to identify and resolve production issues and ultimately increase operator throughput.
Within this role, it is essential to be someone that is respectful and collaborative with both operators and the engineering team. It is optimal to be an individual who is curious and eager to learn to assist in problem solving efforts. Lastly, it is important to have worked in a manufacturing environment previously to share new ideas and systems that could aid in the development of new products and changes within the production lines.
Essential Functions:
- Solve manufacturing problems with innovative solutions.
- Own continuous improvement in our processes and documentation on multiple production programs
- Support transition from engineering development to manufacturing.
- Investigate and implement alternate/new manufacturing processes and technologies to help continuously improve our processes.
- Provide key technical input on all product designs for manufacturing ease and cost considerations. This includes analyzing different design approaches and manufacturing methods.
- Examine early assembly prototyping/testing to provide feedback in the design process.
- Create assembly instructions and routings.
- Review and approve drawings for the Manufacturing Department
- Communicate information between the design and manufacturing teams and ensure that design feedback from manufacturing is relayed to engineering.
- Lead and support Lean Manufacturing initiatives in the organization such as 5S, Tool Control, etc.
- Experience and knowledge of manufacturing methods, specifically in soldering and electronics assembly.
- Experience with technical writing, specifically work instructions and process documentation.
- Experience using Microsoft Office products and 3D CAD software (Solid Works preferred)
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 5 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
Skills:
- Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing using Solid Works
- Experience with 3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing
- Experience/certification in lean practices; 5S, six sigma, etc.
- Experience with MRP systems such as SAP/Oracle/Costpoint
