SummaryThe Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) interviews and initiates care for patients, collects history of present illness, performs vital sign measurement, coordinates follow‑on procedures, assists with provider procedures, and documents care in the electronic medical record.
Responsibilities- Interview patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, and history of allergies.
- Perform vital sign measurement and any standard testing per clinic procedures.
- Coordinate and perform follow‑on procedures as directed by a provider, including onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
- Assist with provider‑performed procedures such as suture application or splints.
- Communicate with patients in a timely and effective manner regarding their care, notify patients of test and lab results, and explain practice policies using cultural competency and active listening.
- Document care into electronic medical record (EMR) and ensure completion of necessary documentation and forms.
- Collect and prepare testing specimens for transport to an off‑site laboratory.
- Maintain and monitor consumable supplies and medications for effective clinical operations.
- Promote a safe, clean, and secure clinical environment for all, applying standard precautions and principles of infection control.
- Current medical assistant certification (CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, or CMA from ARMA).
- BLS certification.
- Ability to lift supplies and equipment regularly and navigate the clinical area.
- Prior work experience in a clinical setting.
