Assistant Water​/Wastewater Operator

The Assistant Water/Wastewater Operator reports to the District Senior Operator and performs assigned tasks in both company-owned and contractually operated water/wastewater treatment facilities and supply plants within the service district(s).

• Extensive driving to various plants throughout district.
• Perform general housekeeping duties at all water/wastewater treatment plants.
• Perform routine inspections, minor maintenance, and repairs to water/wastewater treatment plants, pumps; lift stations, collection systems, and distribution systems.
• Assist Licensed Operators with other tasks as required in the operation of all water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Oversee chemical deliveries and filter media exchanges.
• Ability to calibrate instrumentation based on training.
• Enter data electronically using field computing equipment.
• Provide field support for other departments when directed.
• Perform Preventive Maintenance, calibration of chart recorders, analyzers, and other equipment as directed.
• Troubleshoot minor mechanical, piping, electrical and electronic systems and controls.
• Make observations and reports on biological, chemical, and physical plant processes.
• Lift chemicals which are approximately 50 pounds.
• May be required to work in multiple states.
• Must adhere to company and customer safety policies and procedures and use of appropriate PPE.
• Work with company provided software to prepare timesheets, leave requests, and emails.

• Must possess or be able to obtain a Delaware Drinking Water Base Level License (or higher) and a Delaware Wastewater Level I Operator in Training License within 1 year of hire.
• High school diploma or equivalent, required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Good reading and writing skills.
• Able to read and understand technical instruction manuals.
• Ability to comprehend and work with numerical data.
• Able to perform basic algebra.
• Good overall mechanical skills.
• Competent in the use of basic hand tools.
• Able to use electrical Multi-meter.
• Competent in basic operation of computers.
• Familiar with MS Word and MS Excel.

• Ability to sit / drive for extensive periods of time.
• Work extended hours in inclement weather.
• Occasionally, lifting and carrying object weighing as much as 50 pounds unassisted and more with assistance.

• Working indoors and out in all types of weather and temperatures.
• Routinely exposed to continuous background noise and water treatment chemicals.
• Rarely exposed to raw sewage.
• Occasionally exposed to loud noises and fumes.

• Hourly Range: $17.59 - $26.39 hourly, based on experience and qualifications.
