Department Supervisor – Mountaire Farms (Millsboro, DE)

Primary

Purpose:

Ensures the successful execution of department operations by aligning procedures, people, and resources to accomplish established goals regarding quality, efficiency, and safety. Provides leadership that fosters accountability, continuous improvement, and a culture of compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Daily operations management:
    Ensure orders are fulfilled accurately and on time, maintaining correct staffing levels to meet production demands.
  • Process adherence:
    Enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Production Practices (GPPs) to maintain consistency and reliability.
  • Quality assurance:
    Monitor product quality and packaging specifications; implement corrective actions for defects and drive improvement initiatives.
  • Food safety compliance:
    Uphold USDA and HACCP regulations, promptly addressing deviations and ensuring pre‑operation sanitation guidelines are met.
  • Performance metrics:
    Achieve department goals including BMPH, Cost/lb., PPMH, and A Grade %.
  • HR and safety administration:
    Complete Kronos and Oracle HCM timekeeping and time‑off requests; ensure timely completion of safety and certification training.
  • Team leadership:
    Supervise, coach, and develop team members to build skills, improve engagement, and maintain a safe, respectful workplace.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration:
    Partner with maintenance, quality assurance, HR, and logistics teams to resolve issues and streamline operations.
  • Continuous improvement:
    Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance employee safety and well‑being.
  • Reporting and documentation:
    Maintain accurate records of production, safety incidents, and compliance audits; prepare reports for management review.
Qualifications:
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or equivalent required;
    Bachelor’s degree preferred in Agriculture, Operations Management, or Business.
  • Experience:

    3+ years of demonstrated supervisory experience in lieu of degree; prior poultry or food manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Technical knowledge: HACCP certification/experience; familiarity with USDA regulations on sanitation and pre‑operations.
  • Leadership skills:
    Proven ability to lead diverse teams, resolve conflicts, and foster accountability.
  • Communication skills:
    Strong written and verbal communication; ability to deliver clear instructions and feedback.
  • Problem‑solving:
    Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot operational issues and implement effective solutions under time constraints.
  • Technology proficiency:
    Experience with Kronos, Oracle HCM, and Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Physical requirements:

    Ability to work in a fast‑paced production environment, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Schedule flexibility:
    Willingness to work varied shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support production demands.
