Manufacturing Engineer (Box Build) – Milpitas, California

Responsibilities
  • Provides hands‑on support for R&D and NPI through in‑house cable harness fabrication and rapid prototyping enabling quick design iteration, early risk identification, and smoother transition from prototype to production.
  • Acts as subject‑matter expert in assigned areas of production and supports manufacturing by responding to technical questions from production personnel, customers, suppliers, and other groups.
  • Reviews customer design specifications and creates manufacturing instructions and BOMs, keeping them up to date and aligned with customer ECOs.
  • Identifies gaps and informs internal and external customers.
  • Supports continuous improvement by utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Analyzes and plans workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. Uses Lean and 5S principles to design production cells.
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. Submits purchase requests for tools and equipment needed to support manufacturing.
  • Confers with customers and vendors to determine product specifications and supports IQC by evaluating products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Applies statistical methods to calculate process controls and support future improvements.
  • Develops labeling, serialization, and packaging procedures for products.
  • Supports Quality and participates in root cause analyses, CAPA activities, inventory disposition, and other activities as needed.
  • Works well with customer engineers during production line setups, line tours, and process demonstrations.
  • Performs other duties and tasks assigned by management.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, mechatronics engineering or equivalent with at least 4 years of hands‑on experience developing manufacturing assembly processes.
  • Familiarity with production/cell layout development using Lean and 5S methods.
  • Experience conceptualizing automated/semi‑automated assembly fixtures, jigs, and tooling for assembly.
  • Experience in Solid Works (preferred), Creo (Pro/Engineer), and/or AutoCAD for design of tooling and cell layouts.
  • Experienced in time and work studies using standard tools and observation methods for operators.
  • Experience working with operators and line supervisors for productivity improvements.
  • Familiarity with general packaging requirements for industrial products.
  • ISO 9001 experience is preferred.
  • Ability to lift at least 20 lbs. and stand and walk on the production line.
  • Ability to build prototypes based on rudimentary documentation or verbal communication.

Yearly Salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000
