Are you an experienced practice accountant looking for more influence, autonomy and the opportunity to help shape the future of a well-established independent accountancy firm?

The firm primarily advises owner-managed businesses, including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. Its clients value the accessible, straightforward and commercially practical support they receive, and many have worked with the practice for a considerable number of years.

The owners are now looking for a forward-thinking General Practice Manager who can take responsibility for managing client relationships, supporting the team and helping the practice continue to develop.

This is not an audit position. It is a broad general practice role offering genuine involvement across accounts, taxation, business advice and practice management.

• Managing a varied portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and owner-managed limited companies
• Reviewing accounts and tax work prepared by members of the team
• Acting as a senior point of contact for clients and providing practical advice throughout the year
• Overseeing workflow, deadlines and the allocation of work within a small team
• Supporting, developing and reviewing more junior colleagues
• Identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes and the service offered to clients
• Advising clients on business performance, taxation and their wider financial affairs
• Working closely with the owners on the continued development and future direction of the practice
• Gradually assuming greater responsibility for the day-to-day management of the firm

• ACA or ACCA qualified
• Currently working at Manager, Senior Manager or an experienced Client Manager level within UK public practice
• Experienced in managing a portfolio of owner-managed business clients
• Technically confident across accounts preparation and taxation
• Comfortable reviewing work and supporting the development of other team members
• Commercially aware and able to offer clients advice beyond straightforward compliance
• Interested in technology and ways of improving efficiency and client service
• Approachable, down-to-earth and able to communicate effectively with business owners
• Comfortable working within a small practice where people contribute beyond narrowly defined job descriptions
