Job Description & How to Apply Below
Tax Graduate Programme (Corporate & Business) July 2027, Milton Keynes

Build a career where technical challenge, trusted relationships and continuous learning come together.

Our Tax graduate programme is designed for curious, outgoing people who enjoy getting to grips with complex technical matters and working with clients to achieve the best possible outcomes. As legislation and client circumstances evolve, you will keep learning, apply sound judgement and turn detailed information into clear, practical support.

At Mercer & Hole, you will join a people-first organisation where trainees are known, supported and encouraged to contribute. You will work closely with experienced colleagues and have genuine access to senior managers and partners, giving you insight into both client work and the wider firm from the start.

What you’ll do

You will join our Corporate & Business Tax team while studying towards the ACA and CTA qualifications via the ACA-CTA joint pathway. With funded study, college time and structured support, you will connect your technical learning directly to work for a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses, groups and larger corporate clients in addition to working with the business owners themselves

You will prepare personal tax self-assessment returns, corporation tax computations and returns, review accounts and financial information, and help clients meet filing and payment deadlines. In addition, you will assist with the employment tax compliance and reporting requirements.

You will investigate information, solve problems and communicate with HMRC and clients. Over time, you will take greater ownership of work and build trusted client relationships.

Year 1 — Build strong foundations

You will build your personal tax and corporation tax knowledge by preparing straightforward computations and returns. With team support, you will organise client information, monitor deadlines, complete basic research, liaise with HMRC and draft clear client communications. You will also have the opportunity to engage in other areas of tax, such as drafting P11

Ds, PSAs and ATED returns.

Build confidence by managing a small client portfolio and preparing more complex tax computations and returns. Develop your knowledge of capital allowances, losses, group relief and quarterly instalment payments, while handling client queries, working with audit and accounts teams, and identifying areas requiring advice, with opportunities to mentor new trainees while continuing to receive support.

You will liaise with business owners collating the information required by them to complete their annual self-assessment returns and to calculate their tax liabilities.

Year 3 — Take greater ownership

Manage compliance assignments, deadlines and client communications, preparing complex corporation tax computations and returns and dealing with more complex personal tax matters. Review junior trainees’ work, research technical issues and support advisory projects.

Year 4 — Prepare for your next step

Complete your professional qualification and consolidate your ability to manage a client portfolio, review compliance work and contribute confidently to tax advisory projects. You will strengthen your commercial awareness, support the development of junior colleagues and prepare to progress to your first management role in the Corporate & Business Tax team.

What you’ll bring

  • A degree in any subject and a genuine desire to build a career in tax.
  • An outgoing, approachable style and confidence building relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for navigating complex technical information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with careful attention to detail.
  • The ability to explain information clearly…
