Salary Voluntary (reasonable expenses paid)

Badminton England is in an exciting period of strategy delivery as the organisation continues its journey towards the achievement of its vision. Badminton England is one of the leading governing bodies of sport in England and has grown to be the fifth largest participation sport in the country.

We own the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships, the greatest and most prestigious open championships in the world, that reaches a global audience of 360 million annually. In 2023 we launched our ambitious 10-year strategy "A Sport for Everyone" and we are looking for energetic non-executive directors to help drive forward its implementation.

About

The Role

Badminton England is seeking a candidate with performance expertise who can support the delivery of the Perform pillar of Badminton England's strategy.

The co-opted NED role will commence in role immediately following appointment and ratification by the Board. It is intended that the successful candidate will be put forward for election at the Badminton England AGM in June 2027.

The successful candidate will be appointed for an initial term of 3 years which may be renewed for a maximum of 3 terms. It is expected that Non-Executive Directors will be required to commit the equivalent of 12 to 15 days per year. This will consist of attending 4-6 board meetings per year, chairing 4-6 Perform Committee meetings, attending key events, and possibly GB Badminton board meetings.

All board members are expected to meet the criteria detailed in this pack in order to make a positive and meaningful contribution to the organisation.

Further Information

Most board meetings take place at the National Badminton Centre, Milton Keynes, and the majority of Perform Committee meetings are held online.

The role is non-remunerated, but Badminton England will reimburse expenses for Board and ambassadorial activities.

Equality Statement

We are an organisation that is committed to embedding inclusive practice both within Badminton England and the wider badminton community. We want to ensure that everyone can access and enjoy the sport of badminton regardless of their gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, background, or circumstances. Whilst the appointment will be made entirely on merit based on skills and experience, Badminton England strongly encourages applications from candidates from under-represented groups, particularly disabled people, diverse ethnic communities, LGBTQ+ community and females.
