About the role
Full‑time EV Apprentice position in a garage workshop at Evans Halshaw. You will gain a Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship with progression to Level 3.
Responsibilities- Learn all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance, including servicing, MOT preparation, component overhaul, and electrical fault diagnostics.
- Assist with diagnostics and fault finding in electric and hybrid vehicles.
- Support maintenance and repair of vehicle components.
- Work with experienced technicians in a modern workshop environment.
- Follow safe working practices, especially around EV systems.
- Contribute to workplace housekeeping and health & safety.
You will be based in the garage workshop and work alongside technicians, gaining hands‑on experience across a range of tasks.
Technical Units Covered- Materials, fabrication, tools, and measuring devices used in the automotive environment
- Inspection of light vehicles
- Diagnosing and rectifying chassis units and components
- Diagnosing and rectifying engine and component faults
- Supporting the maintenance and repair of electric and hybrid vehicles
- Learning vehicle inspections and servicing
- Assisting with diagnostics and fault finding
- Using safe working practices for EV systems
- Contributing to good housekeeping
- Reducing risks to health and safety
Monday to Friday, 8 am – 5 pm (40 hours per week).
Learning & Development- Industry‑recognised Autocare Level 2 and Motor Vehicle Technician standards
- Hands‑on experience with EV technology and diagnostics
- Skill development in maintenance, repair, and inspection
- Ongoing support from expert trainers and mentors
- Progression opportunities within the BYD network
- GCSE Level 4 or above in Maths and English (or equivalent)
- Genuine interest in cars and electric vehicles
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Ability to prioritise and meet timelines
- Full UK driving licence is preferred, but not essential
