Overview
Join to apply for the SEMH Teacher role at Compass Community. Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds, and all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.
Our work is varied and challenging. As a trauma- and attachment-informed organisation, all staff receive extensive therapeutic training and support. We place the child at the centre of decision making, ensuring that education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams and our students work together to secure outstanding outcomes for all.
The RoleWe are all primarily teachers of children before teachers of subjects. Central to this role is knowing the child, building professional, nurturing and positive relationships, and motivating students. The role includes teaching English and/or Maths to GCSE level. We maintain high aspirations for our children regardless of their learning journey and recognise the importance of qualifications to provide life chances and opportunities.
Compass Community School teachers inspire children, create a sense of awe, and make subjects and lessons real and relevant. They plan exciting and engaging learning opportunities that challenge students, whether they are working on fundamentals or have a special talent or passion for the subject. Our children may present with complex and challenging behaviours, requiring attention, the right communication, consistency, flexibility, and a non-judgemental approach.
We welcome teacher input in developing both the academic curriculum and the extra-curricular offer, bringing their own interests and passions to the table.
