Senior Clinical Education Fellow (Full-time, 40 hours per week)
Exciting news! We’re thrilled to announce a brand-new opportunity for a full-time Senior Clinical Education Fellow post. This is a fixed term position for 18 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for an additional 2 years by mutual agreement. Ideally starting in March 2026, but can be negotiated for the right candidate.
This role is tailor‑made to support undergraduate teaching, offering a unique chance to shape the future of medical education. As the newest member of our team, you’ll lead a team of education fellows and teach medical students in a dynamic hospital environment while also mentoring aspiring doctors, from bedside teaching to curriculum development and assessment activities, ensuring a diverse and engaging experience.
Note:
this role does not meet the Trust’s hard‑to‑recruit criteria, and therefore relocation expenses will not be provided.
- Lead the Senior Clinical Education Fellow team, overseeing rotas and the teaching programme, in partnership with senior clinical leads.
- Facilitate weekly Phase 1 bedside teaching for first- and second-year medical students from the University of Buckingham Medical School, teaching history taking, examinations and bedside etiquette.
- Assist with undergraduate and postgraduate simulation training.
- Assist in planning other student activities such as elective placements, assistantships, revision sessions, and other undergraduate/postgraduate education programmes.
- Develop and deliver a range of teaching materials including small-group workshops, lectures, simulation-based education and mentoring.
- Take part in the operation and development of the Trust’s simulation centre, including high-fidelity manikins and audiovisual equipment.
- Engage in assessment and evaluation of students, including marking exams, OSCEs, quality‑assurance processes and support of clinical examinations.
- Work with the wider multidisciplinary team within Medical Education to plan for student placements.
- Provide pastoral support to students.
- Conduct research and quality‑improvement projects relevant to medical education, with the expectation of conference presentations and journal publications.
- Attend networking opportunities, education conferences and departmental teaching activities such as the weekly Grand Round, Medical Journal Club and IMT teaching.
- Participate in regular supervisory meetings for appraisal and development guidance.
- Occasional travel to Buckingham Medical School and other NHS Partnership Trusts.
- The exact job plan will be agreed with the Associate Director of Clinical Studies (UBMS).
Essential qualifications for this post include:
- Medicine Degree and GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- At least four years post‑registration experience in an acute trust.
- Knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for teaching and programme development.
- Proficiency in teaching the 23 GMC practical skills and procedures.
- Strong IT-ability.
- Effective communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and engagement in audit and governance activities.
