Mechanical Design Engineer (Automation)
Milton Keynes
Permanent Position – Salary: £40,000-£50,000 – Monday to Friday
Job Description- Design bespoke automated machinery, robotic systems, and special purpose equipment using Solid Works
- Produce detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and assembly documentation
- Develop innovative mechanical design solutions from concept through to production
- Work closely with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and project engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery
- Carry out design calculations, tolerance analysis, and component selection
- Support prototype builds, testing, commissioning, and design validation activities
- Modify and improve existing machinery and automation systems to enhance performance and reliability
- Liaise with suppliers and customers regarding technical specifications and design requirements
- Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards, quality requirements, and health & safety regulations
- Manage multiple design projects while meeting project deadlines and budgets
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices
- Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Minimum 6 years' experience in mechanical design engineering
- Strong experience designing automation machinery, robotic systems, or special purpose machinery
- Proficient in Solid Works with experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings
- Experience taking designs from concept through to manufacture and assembly
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, and assembly
- Experience selecting mechanical components including bearings, actuators, gearboxes, motors, and pneumatics
- Understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team
