Job Title: Technical & Design Specialist (Flat Roofing & Insulation)

Function: Technical and After Sales

Location: Hybrid role across sites and Milton Keynes office.

Standard Hours (inc shift pattern): 40 hours per week- 8:30am-5:00pm

BMI UK&I have an exciting permanent opportunity for a Technical & Design Specialist to join the team. Reporting to the Technical & Compliance Director this role is based in our Milton Keynes office with occasional travel to sites.

Role Summary

Are you a technical expert who thrives on bridging the gap between compliance and commercial success As a vital member of our Technical Services Team you will collaborate closely with our Technical & Compliance Manager Lead Technical Advisor and key business stakeholders to deliver market-leading cost-effective solutions.

This dynamic role combines field-based technical expertise strategic design and team mentorship. The ideal candidate will split their time between high-level project planning executing complex site surveys translating data into precise technical drawings and upskilling team members to maintain high operational standards across all locations

Leveraging your deep industry knowledge and sharp decision-making skills you will champion regulatory compliance while directly driving BMIs competitive edge and commercial growth.

Your key responsibilities will be:

• Mentor the wider Technical Services and PSM Teams to help develop and share technical organisational and wider knowledge in your specialist area (insulation) ensuring regulatory compliant solutions are provided to our customers.

• Provide technical advice and support to internal and external customers in accordance with BMI BS and all relevant standards and regulations including training and site support as required.

• Provide detailed technical support for your defined flat (incl. other building membranes). Specifically insulation for flat roofing - both flat and tapered insulation boards ensuring technical questions can be answered for all roofing and other business areas and seek support of experts in other fields where required.

• Support the generation of cut to fall design and specifications ensuring all specifications produced are compliant with internal and external standards and ensure all specifications are logged into internal systems i.e. Spec Master CRM etc.

• Provide installation advice in line with BMI instructions by phone or electronic communication.

• Highlight issues relating to the specification and installation of BMI products and systems and suggest improvements to streamline end to end processes including playing an active part in developing and delivering improvements to market offer to optimise commercial position.

• Give advice and help on handling product complaints to external and internal sales as well as site services/inspection team.

• Maintain monthly reporting on technical services and commercial activity in line with business requirements.

• This multifaceted role will require travelling to carry out project surveys deliver training supporting surveys of large and complex roofs with the relevant PSM with the possibility of staying away from home on occasion as required.

Your key skills and experience will include:

• Excellent product and application design technical knowledge

• Good knowledge of relevant internal and external standards and regulations for compliance.

• Good understanding of manufacturing processes that contribute towards product quality.

• Experience of dealing with customers and internal colleagues essential especially a demonstrated track record of building good working relationships with customers and internal colleagues complaint handling etc

• Excellent communication and influencing skills.

• PC Literate Drawing Express and Auto Cad Proficient competent in the use of laser level surveying equipment
