The Business

Finatal is partnering with a PE-backed facilities management business headquartered in Milton Keynes to appoint a Group Financial Controller into its senior leadership team. Operating across a multi-entity group structure with an active buy-and-build strategy, the business is in an exciting phase of growth and is building out its finance function to match its ambition.

This is a critical hire. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Group Financial Controller will own the financial control, reporting and governance of the group — bringing rigour, pace and a genuine appetite for improvement to a finance function undergoing meaningful transformation. The role carries real influence across the leadership team and investor stakeholders, and offers the platform to leave a lasting mark on the finance function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the group financial control function across all entities, ensuring strong control, clear accountability and high reporting standards
  • Own the group month‑end and year‑end close process, ensuring reporting is accurate, timely and well controlled
  • Oversee all transactional finance activity, ensuring OTC and P2P processes operate with appropriate control, ownership and performance discipline
  • Own the group consolidation process, managing intercompany balances, eliminations and group reporting with precision
  • Lead the preparation and review of monthly management and financial reporting across the group
  • Oversee the preparation of annual statutory accounts and lead a well‑managed year‑end process
  • Act as the primary finance contact for external auditors, ensuring audit readiness across the team at all times
  • Take responsibility for VAT and CIS compliance and reporting across relevant entities
  • Oversee Treasury activity including cash visibility, liquidity awareness, banking controls and related governance
  • Implement and maintain group‑wide finance policies, controls and standard operating procedures
  • Identify weaknesses in current processes and lead significant improvements to strengthen the finance function
  • Drive finance transformation initiatives including process redesign, system improvement and integration activity
  • Lead, develop and strengthen the finance team, building clarity of roles, accountability and capability
  • Champion the adoption of AI and emerging technologies within the finance function, identifying practical opportunities to improve processes and reporting through technology
Candidate Profile

We are looking for a technically strong, operationally‑minded finance leader who can combine deep accounting expertise with a genuine drive for improvement and transformation. The ideal candidate will bring:

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified with a minimum of 10 years post‑qualification experience — essential
  • Proven experience in a Group Financial Controller, Financial Controller or senior finance leadership role
  • Strong technical accounting background including statutory reporting, multi‑entity consolidation and audit management
  • Experience leading month‑end and year‑end close across a multi‑entity group, with full ownership of the consolidation process
  • Solid working knowledge of VAT, CIS, Treasury and financial control requirements
  • Experience overseeing transactional finance functions alongside financial reporting responsibilities
  • Background in a B2B services or contract‑driven environment — facilities management, property services, engineering services, infrastructure or outsourcing strongly preferred
  • Experience implementing finance policies, controls and process improvements in a changing environment
  • Exposure to acquisitions, integrations or finance transformation advantageous
  • Strong Excel and finance systems capability; experience of Sage Intacct is a plus
  • A genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for AI and technology, with a desire to explore how new tools can improve the finance function — prior AI experience is not required
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management and change management capability
