We are seeking an experienced Finance Controller to provide leadership and operational support within our finance function. This role will ensure continuity of financial control, reporting accuracy, and team management across the business. You will play a key role in maintaining high standards of governance while supporting day-to-day operations and ongoing finance projects.

As our Finance Controller, you will take ownership of financial reporting, controls, and team leadership, ensuring the finance function operates efficiently and delivers accurate, timely insight to support decision-making.

About You:

You’re detail-oriented, proactive, and confident in leading a busy finance function. You bring strong technical expertise alongside the ability to operate at pace, balancing multiple priorities effectively. With a hands-on approach and a focus on continuous improvement, you’re comfortable managing teams, strengthening processes, and supporting both operational delivery and strategic decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Maintain strong financial controls and robust reconciliations across all areas.
  • Support year‑end and audit processes, liaising with external auditors as required.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis:
  • Lead short‑term forecasting cycles, including cashflow management and variance analysis.
  • Provide financial insight and reporting to senior stakeholders to inform decision‑making.
  • Monitor performance against budget, highlighting risks and opportunities.
Team Leadership & Operations:
  • Manage and support the finance team, ensuring continuity of workload and high performance.
Compliance & Governance:
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements, including VAT, PAYE, and statutory filings.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial procedures.
  • Support risk management activities and ensure audit readiness across processes.
Process Improvement & Systems:
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Support finance initiatives such as system upgrades, automation, and process redesign.
  • Ensure clear documentation and effective handover for incoming permanent leadership.
Skills & Experience:
  • Qualified or part‑qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or similar role.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and familiarity with UK reporting standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage a high‑volume finance function.
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Sector‑specific experience aligned to the organisation.
  • Strong systems capability, including ERP systems, reporting tools, and advanced Excel.
