We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Capital Analyst to join our Finance team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in capital accounting within the NHS, who is looking to develop their skills in a supportive environment.

• Provide capital and lease accounting to ensure the trust accurately records its capital assets and adheres to capital accounting policies outlined under IFRS and by NHS England and the Department of Health.
• Provide capital accounting support to the Senior Capital Accountant in meeting NHSE and DHSC requests for interim and year-end accounts submissions.

• Responsible for the timely and accurate production of monthly and annual capital accounts and reporting.
• Responsible for planning and coordinating own workload to ensure monthly accounts are produced within agreed deadlines.
• Prepare and maintain capital accounting guidance and procedure notes in accordance with Standing Financial Instructions (SFIs) and departmental requirements.

• Maintain the Trust's fixed asset register (RAM), ensuring completeness, accuracy and integrity, including analysis of complex data.
• Ensure financial and capital transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled between the fixed asset register and general ledger; investigate and resolve discrepancies within agreed timescales.

• Capitalise assets onto the fixed asset register in accordance with Trust policies and accounting standards.
• Process monthly depreciation, amortisation and accruals in line with Trust policy.
• Process accounting entries relating to fixed asset disposals.
• Undertake asset revaluations in accordance with Trust policy.

• Monitor the financial progress of capital projects, including commitments, purchase orders and expenditure against the approved capital plan.
• Produce monthly capital monitoring reports for the Capital Control Group, Trust Board and external bodies as required.

• Maintain the Trust's lease register and ensure the accuracy and completeness of lease accounting records.
• Ensure lease transactions are correctly reflected within the financial statements and fixed asset records.

• Assist in the preparation of capital budget statements for budget holders.

• Provide financial input to support the development and evaluation of business cases.
• Review proposed expenditure to ensure compliance with capitalisation criteria and accounting standards.

To provide scheme managers and other non-finance staff with advice and guidance in respect of capital ordering processes and capital accounting requirements.

• Good basic education to A-level standard (including GCSE Maths and English).
• Experience of working within a finance role in a large organisation.
• AAT technician level or equivalent qualification or experience.
• Working towards Professional CCAB Accountancy qualification.

• Detail knowledge and understanding of accounting procedures, bookkeeping, and financial systems.
• Experience of accounting for capital transactions.
• Experience of working with and manipulating large volumes of data.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office IT packages including Excel and Word.
• Experience of working within finance controls and procedures.
• Experienced user of computerised financial and capital accounting and reporting systems, in particular RAM, Oracle R12 and Business Intelligence.
• Experience of working to tight deadlines and under pressure.
• Experience of working in an NHS organisation.

• Excellent planning and organisational skills with ability to work to tight deadlines, under pressure, and prioritise where necessary.
• Ability to work without direct supervision and adhere to Trust policies and guidelines.
• Ability to communicate (written & verbal) with people at all levels within and outside the organisation, both financial and non-financial.
• Able to interpret guidelines and implement appropriate changes to working practices.
• Ability to analyse and interpret financial data and prepare financial summaries.
• Experience of presenting financial data to others.
