Position: Mortgage Underwriter (Bridging Finance)

The primary function of this role is to assess and underwrite bridging finance applications to ensure all lending complies with the company’s credit risk policy, and assisting our intermediary partners by discussing potential new applications.

Responsibilities include:
  • Review, assess and underwrite new bridging loan applications in accordance with Lending Policy and within agreed service level agreement time parameters.
  • Evaluate all supporting documentation including credit searches, land registry reports, valuation reports and conduct the required due diligence for every case.
  • Provide a clearly articulated and balanced credit rationale supporting the approval of a new application, with mitigations where required.
  • Manage a pipeline of cases diligently and efficiently from application through to completion – including liaising with solicitors and arranging funding.
  • Ensuring a high level of accuracy of data entry and ongoing record keeping.
  • Being an active team member with a can-do attitude, able to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • To participate and contribute to ongoing business improvement activity.
  • Deliver a first-class, proactive customer service to all stakeholders.
  • Build a thorough understanding of the products offered by the Firm, its lending strategy, credit risk policies, and processes.
  • Assisting with new enquiries from introducers to provide heads of terms.

Qualifications and Experience Essential
  • Experience in Bridging, Refurbishment, or Development Finance, ideally 2 years+ in a mandate-holding role (or similar) for a specialist finance provider.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the full lifecycle of a bridging loan, including managing completions.
  • Experienced in preparing detailed and succinct credit rationales in support of a bridging loan.
  • Familiar with working in a small, collaborative team.
  • Experienced in effectively managing a pipeline of cases from end to end.
