Main duties of the job

As an Advanced MRI Radiographer, you’ll play a key role in delivering a high‑quality diagnostic service across our modern MRI facilities – including two Siemens 1.5T scanners at the main hospital site and a GE 1.5T Voyager at our Community Diagnostic Centre. With a new state‑of‑the‑art Imaging Scanning Centre opening in 2026, this is an exciting time to be part of our growing service.

You’ll carry out a wide range of MRI examinations, including neuro, musculoskeletal, angiography, and dynamic studies, while ensuring the highest clinical standards and excellent patient care. The role also includes participation in the on‑call rota for spinal emergencies.

Job responsibilities
  • Organise workload and supervise junior staff for MRI, providing ongoing tuition as required.
  • Ensure the department delivers a high‑quality patient experience.
  • Ensure safety of all patients, staff, and visitors in the department.
  • Liaison with other modalities within the department to maximise room utilisation and prioritise patients, ensuring optimum efficiency and service quality across the Trust.

Person specification Qualifications and knowledge
  • BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
  • Quality Improvement, transformation, and innovation training
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • Evidence of a sound level of computer literacy (MS Teams, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS), radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving communications systems (PACS)
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements
  • Sound awareness of data protection, freedom of information and confidentiality issues within NHS
  • Evidence of keeping informed of the current MR imaging techniques & practices via short courses & study days to underpin knowledge development.
  • Knowledge of relevant national imaging standards (e.g., IR(ME)
    R 2017, IRR '17 and associated codes of practice)
Experience
  • Experience of an extensive range of MRI procedures
  • Wide range of general radiographic experience since graduation.
  • Experience of taking responsibility for the successful training of a team of radiographers within MRI.
  • Experience of the clinical management of an MRI Service
  • Experience of dealing with breakdowns and taking remedial action within MRI
Skills
  • Good organisational and time‑management skills
  • High level of self‑motivation and ability to learn and develop
  • Logical approach to decision making and problem solving.
  • Ability to work to agreed protocols and standards of good/ best practice.
  • Able to write protocols, policies, and procedures in relation to MR service
